Intelligent RV Water Pump Controller

The product made by this Canadian company looks interesting:

http://irvwpc.com

Has anyone on the forum ever installed one of these and what were your results? Did it help with water pump noise?

Thanks,

Steve

Well this sure looks interesting and the theory is solid - monitor line pressure with a transducer and then modulate pump line voltage to control pump speed and which prevents the pump from rapidly cycling on/off thus eliminating the loud rumbling.
I’ll try one of these when we head out next time. If the border ever opens.

ah, the easy start of water systems voltage / amperage regulation is a good thing!

I wonder how this works in conjunction with an accumulator tank, which attempts to regulate line pressure itself but way of an air bladder that expands / contracts as water enters / exits the system... I might shoot them a note. Go Canada BTW eh?!

This is one thing I would definitely get if I boondocked a lot and used mostly the water pump for water. The sound difference is significant based upon their own video. Cost is 219 canadian and 167 U.S. plus any adapters.

Here is a note I just sent to IRVWPC:

We have the Shurflo 4088 on our airstream classic. We use the water pump and supply water from the fresh water tank. In three years the pump has failed twice. The first time I replaced the pump head containing the pressure switch. On the second failure I further investigated. The microswitch contained in the pump-mounted pressure switch had its contact surfaces pitted from the switch-open arc, eventually raising the contact resistance and causing the switch heat up and totally fail. The arc voltage was several thousand volts. I replaced the microswitch (amazon $10 for three) and added a snubber RC (100 ohms and 1ufd) across the contacts. The switch-open voltage is now about 40 volts and no arcing occurs.

Without your system or a snubber, the pressure switch WILL fail and cost the owner somewhere between $200 and $10 (depending on how they fix it)

Intelligent RV Water Pump Controller

We purchased one of these units and I installed it yesterday.

The difference in pump noise is dramatic. Much, much quieter.

So far, we are happy with this. Will let you know how things go down the road.

I installed the IRVWPC about a year ago. It was and still is a great upgrade. No issues whatsoever.

Highly recommend this product!

Ditto

Works great and no more annoying water hammer sound.

There are other more recent threads on it; I installed one several years ago, am glad to have…

I had Truma (Elkhart) install a new AquaGo water heater last spring and I installed the IRVWPC the next day. Amazing results… Hot Water without waste (unlike Gerard I replaced it with)… operates like my old tank water heater in previous trailer… and the IRVWPC smoothed out the water pump and hums along as a proper pump should… and will trickle flow at kitchen faucet.

Notes:
- I added foam pipe wrap where some water pipes were vibrating against the camper.
- I installed the unit under the fridge by my water pump.

Great Tech

I installed one last year and it works great - less noise, and more control. Changes the pump from a stop-start device to variable rate flow.

East to install.

Airstream YouTuber, "Thirteen Adventures" installs the controller
BTW, he's been doing a lot of water system videos lately.

I installed one in May 2023. We have used it extensively. The thing is awesome. Highly recommended.

The only issue I have had is when I de-winterized last weekend, the water pump would not run and a red light was flashing on the IRVWPC. Turned out that in trying to pull water from my long dry system I triggered the dry pump shut off because the pump did not prime within the cutoff time. The solution was to shut off the pump and turn in back on to allow it more priming time.
