Installing new water pump
Hello. I have had multiple problems with the water pump in my 2020 FC 26 RB and have some questions. I have had several water pumps replaced because of the diaphragm being blocked which caused the fresh water tank to fill with water. I now have a new water pump and am going to install it. My basic understanding is to shut water and power off and then open up the faucets inside the trailer and then open up the low point drains prior to installing the new water pump.
I suspect that the cause of the other water pump problems is from debris from having unfiltered water - so I plan on flushing the hot water heater.
I now have a water filter leading from the city water hose to the Airstream.
Any suggestions?
THANK YOU!
PS: Yes. It’s under warranty but we are traveling and are not close to an Airstream dealer.

Sounds like you're on the right track. I replaced mine a few years ago and fresh tank was empty. Have some towels ready. Remember that pump is on the 12V so be sure that's off. Also clean out the strainer (see pic)that should be close by. You really shouldn't be going through a lot of pumps. I heard that there is a rebuild kit for pumps so you may want to look into rebuilding the current one and having it as a spare. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Nothing wrong with flushing your hot water heater but thats not the cause of your problem because its downstream from your pump. If debris is getting in pump its coming from your freshwater tank or the water you are putting in your freshwater tank. Best thing you can do is as mentioned in the previous post make sure you clean the strainer which should be instaled between your freshwater tank and the pump.--Frank

Thank you so much for your help! I did not even consider shutting off the 12 volt. I “think” the reason that I’m going through water pumps is because I have not used a filter from city water to the Airstream.
Take care!

City water does not go throught the pump!! The pump picks water from your tank only. Tank needs to be flushed, and the inline filter before your pump cleaned. An inline filter from city water is a good idea, as it will help keep debris from your lines. You must be careful when filling the fresh water tank, and if you have an inline city water filter, use it when filling your tank. A simple taking apart and cleaning the diaphrams in the pump will usually prevent the backflow into your tank when on city water.

It sounds like you are often hooked up to city water, if thats the case use your filter but make sure your pump is turned off. You don't need the pump when you are connected to city water. You might try flushing your freshwter tank, fill it most of the way with your hose at the fill spout, then open the freshwater tank drain and let it completely drain.

Thank you! I will do that before putting in the new pump. Happy Easter!
