How to remove water heater mixing valve

I am trying to remove the hot water heater mixing valve, as the water pressure to the faucets is low. Is there a trick to removing the valve from where it threads into the tank? I am putting a fair amount of force on it, but it is not moving. I don’t want to break anything.

You will need to use a progressive amount of force.

That valve is really welded on. I had to use significant torque to remove it. First tried a plumbers wrench, which started to mangle the brass fitting. Then used my hand and got the entire valve moving, only to leave the brass fitting still in the tank since it also threads into the valve body. Then back to the wrench and some more persuasion.
