Unhappy hot water tank

I have a Mor-Flow/American appliance water heater.
Problem:
The "unitrol" thermostat leaks propane around the gas cock, the part that you select off, pilot, or on (the red knob) also it doesn't shut all the way off when the heater reaches the pre selected temprature it allows just enough fuel to cause the flame to burn back to the air shuttle. Not exzactly what I would call remotely safe!!
I am told these people are no longer in business when I tryed to buy a replacement "unitrol"
does anyone sell a new one? or does anybody happen to have a good used one?
Thanks , George

Thumbs up Robertshaw unitrol problem solved

Well the nice thing about something broken, is you can't brake it more.
So what the heck, I took the control apart, it had lots of white aluminum corossion inside(10 years non use)
I polished the tapered spool valve with crocus cloth and it's matching body, which solved the leak around the gas cock valve(red knob)
The the temprature shutoff portion was also leaking, same problem, corossion under the seat so it was cleaned/polished also.
So all is well now with the water heater problem, lotsa nice hot water for dishes/shower
now on to other problems
ol'George
