Hot Water Relief Valve
I have a 1972 Argosy Trailer. I just bought it and when testing all of the components I found that the relief valve in the hot water heater leaks when pressure build in the tank. I am able to find new relief valves but they are all 150psi and the one that I took out of the hot water heater is 125psi. Has anyone had luck finding a relief valve that is 125psi? Or has anyone changed these out using the 150psi one without any issues? 25psi in that tank is a lot of extra pressure.

I bought one a few years ago from McMaster-Carr. It’s called a T&P Valve.

How bad is it leaking?
Have you tried snapping it open and closed?
How old is the water heater?

So you think using the 150psi instead of the 125psi that is in there is ok?

I did try and it just caused the slow flow to become a fast flow.

I checked the specs on both of the above valves. They are 150 psi.

Hot Water Relief Valve
Main reason the valve is Installed is for over temperature issues. It’s not going to pop on over pressure. The PEX or the input regulator will most likely blow first.

The T&P valve in our 2017 weeped from the start. We resolved it by replacing with one from Home Depot for less than $20 vs the poor-quality, OEM one. rmkrum is correct--even if your water heater could achieve 150+ PSI, the resulting pressure would blow out a PEX seal, pressure regulator or even the braided supply hose before the tank itself could rupture. Happy travels!

Did your Home Depot replacement model have the probe?
