Hot Water Heater in a 2018 Classic

Is anyone else having problems with their hot water heater? We are on the Alde system. We did a short trip in December and it worked fine.

We stopped at an Airstream dealership yesterday because it wasn't working. The service manager bled the system and we had instant hot water. We were told that the radiant heat had to be on and he said you do not need to have the radiant heat on.After bleeding the system it worked and the radiant heat was not on. We are very confused right now. Sometimes we have hot water and sometimes we don't . We definitely have it if we put the shower booster on (switches to gas when the booster is on). If we take it off the shower booster we loose the hot water.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix the problem?

Thank you,

Montanachick

Alde hot water heater on 2018 Classic

Montanachick again. We have been in touch with our dealership the past couple of days and talking to them this morning they received as ervice bulletin #173, which applys to Airstream 30 and 33 Classics built between 1-31-17 and 11-2-17, serial number ranges 538263-542982.

The bulletin states that these airstreams built with in the above period have possibly been wired wrong. In our case it is wired wrong. The wires need to be switched on Port 3 behind the Firefly system.

Check out the bulletin for more details.

Just to answer one of your questions... you do not have to have radiant heat on to get hot water. On the main page of the main firefly panel are two buttons- one for water heater, one for radiant heat. Only the water heat needs to be on for hot water. The shower boost button will give you additional hot water for showers.

The radiant heat button simply circulates heating fluid to the room radiators.

Hot Water Heater in a 2018 Classic

I would lift the lever on the relief valve and let it snap back down. This clears it out and reseats it.

The red ring is only a female thread protector.

Actually, I generally put bread into a toaster first. Then it produces toast...

Yeah, pedantic darn Engineer type.

The glass is too big.

Yes... but I don't put bread that's already toast in a toaster, why would you have to heat hot water in a water heater if it's already hot. 🥴
Ahhh, it's a hotter water heater, got it.😉

Surely you both saw the irony in my comment?

Glad to here it was only debris under the seat. You can also do this to renew the air cushion with in the tank.

Update on having hot water!

Montanachick here,

Sorry for not posting this before now but we finally figured out what was happening with the hot water button! After talking to Spencer at Alde, we figured out that the reason we were not getting hot water was because the circulating pump was consistently. When the system is being filled with glycol, the pump needs to be on to get it through the system. Unfortunately, it was never switched over to the other button (forget what it's called). As soon as we switched it over we had hot water in 10 minutes! The circulating pump should only be on when the heat comes on.

Happy New Year to one and All !!!
