Help with ordering Dinosaur Circuit Board Replacement for 2018 Bambi Airstream Sport

So I'm a total newbie here though I do understand basic electronics and how gas furnace systems work it's my first trailer.

I just purchased a 2018 Airstream Bambi 16' Sport and my boys and I took it out to an RV park just 45 min from home to see how we would do towing, unhooking and setting all the electric/water/sewer up. We actually did really well and even the sewer dump was a breeze.

Huge frustration with the water heater ... read the manual, read the schematics of the Atwood water heater.. then I open the outside panel to see if I can light a pilot light or troubleshoot and it's a "Dometic" Automatic Storage Water Heater.. thanks to this forum I understand this is the same brand now. However, I want to replace the circuit board with the Dinosaur I keep reading about. I've had 3 others look at it after I came to the conclusion there was no ignition and we all agree, bad circuit board.

I've been to the Dinosaur website which seems equally antiquated 🙄. Can anyone help direct me to which board I need to buy? I do have someone to help install that is qualified and willing.

I've had a very bad experience with any company outside of Amazon (sadly) that makes exchanges easy for anything along this adventure so far. So, I am trying to get this right the first time. Help is much appreciated.

I already know how amazing the RV community is by our first trip when my 10 year olds weren't super great with the hand signals.. walkie talkie's ordered and appreciated the quick help of a veteran RV'r that had me parked in less than 2 min - super cool!

Hoping for some help here to get us ready for the next trip maybe a bit farther away - thanks all!

Have the model number of your water heater handy and call them. They are very friendly. They’ll tell you which model you need (if I remember correctly they can’t sell it to you directly but you can order it from a distributor).

The controllers do fail from time to time, but it's tad more common to have an issue with the 12V power, a corroded connection, a bad Thermostat or fail safe go bad.

Have you eliminated all these possibilities?

Take heart. This is a *very* easy 5-minute fix once you have the board. This was my first AS system failure and I was pretty proud that I was able to resolve it on my own. Felt legit!

No, I haven't but spoke with Dinosaur Board by phone asked pretty much the same.. this company is awesome (as already stated by others) but Teresa there said to get a Digital Multimeter. I used one years ago in college perhaps to learn for this adventure in life...

I've ordered the board too, but plan on calling Dinosaur Electronics before installing. Teresa told me they will troubleshoot any board, even if it's not theirs and help find the problem.. So, I will do that when I get my multimeter (will need it for future too) and figure it out before installing a new board...

Thank you everyone for your input. It'a been very beneficial.. will let you know the results and what happens once I work through the issue... thankful for all of your knowledge!

Ditto
The board is potted in epoxy and they don't usually fail in two or three years.

The first thing to check is the ground. The screws are often over-tightened and then loose off. You might have to drill a new hole in one of he other corners...usually only two of 4 screws are used to mount the board.

My experience is that the connector to the board sometimes get loose or corroded also.
Then check for 12 V power getting through the two thermostats.

Then I would look for a new board....Ditto on calling the company first if you aren't comfortable deciding which board to choose.

Getting a new board may not be as easy as you think. RV dealers are waiting weeks for delivery. I had to go to my Airstream Dealer personally to get an ignition module for the fridge when the local RV dealer couldn't get timely delivery before our scheduled vacation trip.

Awesome - thank you for all the tips on what to check. I did order a new board from "Boat and RV Accessories" and it came quickly (arrived today). If it turns out I don't need it I figure someday I will maybe when we are on a trip, so will hold onto it. Really appreciate all the help here - thank you everyone!

Just order the Dinosaur Electronics board
Remove the old board
Install the dinosaur board

then, the water will be hot. We did this 2 years. NEVER ANY PROBLEMS

Before that, I replace the oem board 3 times. The oem board is just a Junk.

My water heater crapped out on the ‘17 International. It was the control board - ordered the UIB 64 and installed in 15 min today. Water heater fires correctly now!

I'm going to order a spare circuit board for my Dometic GE 9EXT W/PL water heater that's in my 2019 GT 27'. Is the UIB 64 or UIB S the best board for this application ?? *As an aside, while I'm talking circuit boards, I called the Dinosaur tech support about my Dometic RMD 8555 refrigerator. I wanted a spare board for it as well. The tech said this model fridge is the German version and he has no board for it. Airstream apparently got a "deal" on this model and insatlled them in some trailers.
