Girard continuous hot water heater

The new Flying Clouds have this device. I would be interested in hearing from any of you about your experience with them. I wish AS would’ve used Truma instead. Any comments?

We received our 2021 Flying cloud April 2021. Have Girard tankless hot water heater. At delivery, tech mentioned be patient, it takes some time to heat up. Water heater set at 110. At dealership, took a quick shower prior to departure and noted minutes of hot water, after a long time waiting for it to turn hot. Trip #1 no water hookup, so figured not working as well out of water in tank. Trip #2 last week, full hookup, no hot water to speak of. Called Girard, they told us it is a gas problem. tested temp of cold water, and how long to fill up 1 gallon of water out of the tap. Asked us to turn on all 3 burners on gas stove, then turn on water, and burners dropped very low, almost went out. Girard reports not enough gas getting to the water tank, so can't heat the water. At dealership, no word on the situation at this point. Anyone have a similar issue?

It is possible that the regulator on your gas tanks has become faulty or is letting too little gas into the system. Some regulators have adjustments on the gas flow, but that is a procedure for a certified technician. A new regulator is not terribly expensive. Replacing a malfuntioning one can be handled by most any RV repair person or by you, if you are familiar with gas connections and can use the appropriate tools.

We had a similar situation in our ‘21 - 23’ GT, the water heater wouldn’t produce hot water and the stove burners would go out if if turned to low. Tried shutting off propane tanks and then opening the valve as slowly as possible in case the high flow safety valve was shutting down the gas flow per the dealer service advisor. Didn’t solve the problem. Fortunately we found a new regulator at an ACE Hardware store in a town not far from where we were camped and salvaged the trip. The 3 month old Cavagna regulator was the problem. I now carry a spare new regulator.

Thanks Tim: Exactly right. Airstream Nashua NH replaced the regulator. Now the water is super hot! Got be careful now. Thanks Regina

This is only our second trip but our continuous hot water system seems to be flawless. We thought we had a problem the other day when the burner kept cutting out resulting in cold showers. Turns out our daughter had turned the water to the trailer almost completely off and there was not enough pressure to keep the heater running (a safety feature I assume). Other than that we like it a lot. We set the thermostat for a max temp that we feel comfortable with and just turn the shower on full hot. No adjustment required.
