BEST ATWOOD Video Troubleshooting/Servicing

i dislike YouTube videographers who stand in front of the camera as movie-star wannabees…and yak and yak …when I want to GET TO THE POINT of the video.

THIS guy has a “git ‘er done” familiarization of Troubleshooting and Servicing your AtWood Water Heater.
ALSO notice he correctly points out that the tank should have a PLASTIC plug. In another thread some folks have bragged they’ve installed metal plugs. Bad.

Kudos to him:

And Another video showing some common repairs to an AtWood.

Notice the advantage of AtWoods’ ALUMINUM tank. (no anode requirement, better/faster heating than steel, no heavy rusting, rarely rusts thru.)

MY PERSONAL INPUT: IF you find you need to adjust the “gap” on your ignitor/sensor DO NOT BEND the PINs at all. Use pliers to adjust the gap by BENDing the BRACKET which holds the “L” shaped pin. (If you try to bend either pin you risk breaking either the spot-weld of the ground-pin…or the Ceramic Insulator of the L-pin.)

Excellent videos. Thanks for posting. In another video he explains in more detail how to diagnose the electronics of the water heater.

Interesting trick to remove wires from the pins using a small elbowed screwdriver. Tip under the wire. Elbow acts as a fulcrum.
