What's that smell?

Hi. I bought a 2004 ccd a few months ago and after towing it it wreaked BAD. Dont know what either sewage somewhere backing up.
Anyways. We stripped it, Flushed everything, cleaned everything thrice.
Aired it out.
But still there is an odor. Its not a sewage odor. Its not foul, kind of sweet and sickening. I cant describe it.
So. Have any of you used a commercial ozone generator to get rid of odors?
Thanks

We've used the ozone units in our rental houses to get rid of dog/cat odors, they work great. A lot of rental outlets have them.

Cant you smell that smell. . .

We had an odor from the previous owner, it had baby diaper and animal odor, what did it for us was our hot texas summer with all windows open (every day for about two weeks) plus a good cleaning. Has to be hot and dry, no humidity. Take all foam out and let it air out in sun with some febreeze or similar. If that doesn't work then there is some other source causing odor.
good luck
James

Thanks. Yea. we wont be using fabreeze. The girlfriend cant tolerate that smell of fabreeze since we went on holiday while i was under the weather. Our hotel room did not have a bathroom fan. Enough said.
I am going to try and find an ozone unit around here.

Careful and read the instructions on the ozone unit. I seem to remember there are some caveats with their use...

Sunlight can sometimes help get smells out of fabric. Of course, even in Penticton it's too cold to start thinking of leaving cushions out-of-doors for long, but when the hot weather shows up, it won't cost much to try "sunning" your cushions and blankets.

Cushions and blankets are all new. The smell in the airstream seems permiated. Maybe when it isnt so wet around here? The ccd is stored indoors in a heated shop so its not moist inside. Since its off season now is the time to tackle this.
BTW. The smell is barely noticeable, but noticable to me since its an underlying smell.
I do know that exposure to ozone is bad so you would be out of the area when its happening. I would assume that an ozone generator would be on a timer. I dont know.
Maybe Mike can chime in again as to his experience.

many threads here on da'stinks

the problem is therez no smell attachment feature.

many threads on using OH!zone machines too.

their value is questionable based on science but LOTs of testimonials exist.

gugle or read the older threads.
________

streams stored INDOORS have issues, most would never suspect.

this complicates things, but the take home message is that indoor storage isn't a panacea.

u describe the odor as "sweet", can ne1 ELSE smell it?

have a non smoker sniff around withOUT any prompting from U...

how do they describe it? do they even notice any odor (remember no prompting!)

there could be water in the AC drip pan and molds or other things growing therein.

sweet/organic smells are often associated with DEAD animals.

mice like the belly pan and a dead mickey or 2 may leave an odor...

NOzone machine will get to the belly pan IF that's the origin.

ketones and aldehydes smell sweet so organic solvents,

or other things that give off these compounds may be the origin.

some black tank chemicals give off a sickening/sweet/vague odor.

IF the blank tank has ever had chemical treatment that's a likely source.

while you may THINK the black tank is empty and clean,

the seals and gaskets in the toilet can LEAK odors...

indoor storage would compound this, since the tank venting will not be optimized...

again borrow some noses and get broader olfactory opinion...

i think the OH!zone option is wasted effort without an origin or source for the smellz.

cheers

Place several trays or containers of household bleach around. As it evaporates it seems to help. Sal.

If it is not an appliance leaking something but is in the AS in the sub floor or permeated in the materials, then we used an odor eliminating canister from Target that "soaks up" odors. You can get it in different fragrances (find one that both like) and it really works. We have a vintage AS Argosy that was "rode hard and put away wet". I stripped everything that was made of material including the gold rug and used BINS sealer on the sub floor. We got most of the odors but what remained we used the odor soaking canisters from Target and it worked. jjustice

Smell

If your traps are dry, or not flushed properly before storage, leaving food waste in there, you will have smell. Leave some liquid in the toilet to keep the seal wet.
Andy has mentioned the sewer vent pipe seal on other posts. Maybe someone can review that again.

I'd bet on a dead rodent either in the belly pan, inside a wall or still hidden somewhere in the interior. Nasty and lingering.

I leave liquid in the toilet and its not leaking so??Vent seal? Is that an actual seal or a broken joint at the vent tube/tank? I really dont think its sewer. Or grey water tank as all traps have antifreeze in them and no, its not the smell of antifreeze.
I can live with it as its not bad but the wife has a nose like a bloodhound. She smells it and so do i but it does not bother me.
I will hit walmart today and see what they have. We did put in all these odor absorbing pucks, they are plastic housing with odor absorbing material and a ton of air fresheners but still its that underlying smell that cuts through the other smells. They did help a little.
Thanks for the ideas so far.
Dead rodent? I dont think so, i have smelled dead rodents and this is not dead rodent smell.I just asked the wife, she thinks it smells like poo.
That just makes me cringe.

If you can smell it at 10', then the ladies can smell it at a mile.

Their smell powers are a dillion times that of a real man.

Howdy from TEXAS......try a product called Odoban.....Sam's sells it. It comes in a gallon jug that is a concentrate. I use the spray mixture to clean just about any odor. It smells some at first (not unpleasant), but as it works, the odor dissipates pretty quickly. I have had VERY GOOD luck with it. Blessings....Callie

My guess is a dead mouse or a water leak.

I would say check everything inside for food, spills and wet spots.

Possible causes: Dead mouse, frig door left closed then propped open, something spilt on the bed or cushions (milk), flush out the drains and add deodorizer, food spoiled way back in a cabinet, or a water leak that is soaking the walls and floor and getting mildewed.

I would over dose the trailer with odor ABSORBERS not scents that only mask. If you have carpets try the powder deodorizers. Buy 15-20 boxes of baking soda. Leave the windows and vents open.

Good luck

Aha! Very good point, masseyfarm! Nothing gives off more "interesting" smells than a dead mouse or bird that has had time to ferment in one of the vents, even if it isn't the black tank one...
