Waste Valve Cap Broken

2016 Airstream 25' FB and the bayonets broke off of the waste valve cap. Not a big deal, but in replacing the cap with an aftermarket Valterra, I noticed how much better made it was than the original on the Airstream. For example, the factory cap only had two bayonets, which is probably why it broke off to begin with, vs. four bayonets on the Valterra. Even the plastic of the cap seems heavier than the factory cap.

I'm not really complaining about the overall quality of an Airstream, but for the price you pay for these trailers, you'd think they would not try to skimp on such an inexpensive item to begin with, when for $5.00 retail, I was able to buy a replacement that was better made.

I think the Valterra cap only hooks on 2 bayonets at the time? I noticed the fitting I just put on the trailer had 4 pins but I think the cap and hose only uses 2.

The Valterra cap which came with our Airstream when we bought it new had only two hooks for the four studs on the pipe. A new one purchased in 2013 also has only two hooks. The same one now costs about $6.00, so is not a big ticket item.

Perhaps Valterra has made changes to the caps since your trailer was built and you bought a new version.

Lost our BW cap on the road, stopped at the largest CW in Eastern NY and of course thay didn't have anything to fit.
Used black 3m 5200 to MacGyver a fix...🤗👍
That was 8yrs ago,I likes the blue, cornfusing tho, it is the black tank after all 😂 Easy backflush now also.

Ya just got to love that MacGyver stuff, but a CW that does not have a Black tank cover in at least three different configs? You were obviously on that alternative universe road that happens when you jump time zones in a silver shiny. Pat
