On a 68 the flange screws into a short nipple that is in turn screwed into the threaded fitting on top of the black tank. Mine was a bear to get loose. I think yours will unscrew as well after you take the screws out that hold it to the floor. I tried tapping mine off with punch on the edge but had no luck. I finally got a piece of steel about 2 feet long x 1 inch wide and drilled holes in on end to match the flange bolts that hold the toilet down (a board might work but I had steel handy). I screwed it down on the fange and with the added leverage the thing just unscrewed with no problem. Getting it to beak loose is the issue, after that is just unscrewed. A 72 may be different but that is how I got my flange out. Another option might be just using a board and bolting it down with about 8 inches overhang on each side. Then you can have lever on both sides to twist.
