Tank Sensor Wire Gauge

Is there a functional reason why the the size of wire used for the tank sensor leads is so tiny? Anyone know of any drawbacks for redoing it with a larger gauge wire?

They use small wire for reasons of weight and cost.

These sensors measure resistance with a very low may not get any reading if you go to heavier gauge...try it by bypassing the system and see if you get a may/may not work depending on how large a gauge you use.
