Sewer and Related
We are new to Airstreaming and this community and would really appreciate some advice and guidance in the category of sewer issues:
1. What type of holding tank neutralizer/deodorant works best? (Aqua-Kem, etc.?)
2. What is the best toilet bowl cleaner to use that won't damage the seals or the system?
Any other recommendations, suggestions, advice, or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.

A full-timer friend gave me this recipe. It works well for us and if odor persists we just add a bit more treatment. The mix : 1 part Liquid Wisk (I suspect any laundry soap will work); 1 part Pine-Sol; 1 part liquid Downy; 1/4 part lemon Ammonia. We pour, maybe, 1/2 cup of the mix in the bowl, add sufficient water to dilute and flush. You can also clean the toilet with this mix. The mixture will separate so shake the container before using.

Aqua-Kem in the packets work well for ours. Valves and seals appear to function well.
Remember, plenty of water in the Black Tank.
Also, if you use the recipe FarmerDan shared, you could use in your sink traps.

OK, Flying Cloud Newbie here too. Spending the first night in mine in the seller's driveway, going through the systems. Reading this thread, I'm curious...what is the conversation regarding odor. Assuming there is a couple water in the bowl above the flush valve...why would there be an odor issue? Or does the issue arise in the moment of flush when the bowl is open to the tank below?
The things I find myself wondering about with my new toy

Yup. It's the moment of flush. You then have a wide open valve leading directly to the black tank.
A little negative pressure inside the AS and there you go. Black tank odor prevention can be an issue. Remembering to shut off exhaust vents is another.....😥

I stopped putting any chemicals in our tanks without any problems. As long as I have a vent or window open when running any fans (like running range fan or shower fan) I have no odor issues.

Landrum, I am glad you mentioned that. Thought there would be more of us that have opted out of that. Between cost and possible down stream impacts, I don't do it any more either.

My AS has always been "used" and used chemicals. When I replaced the dump valves the tank had no "solids/cake" remaining.
Remember, plenty of water gives a good flush and will force the air into the tank.. So no "backdraft" of tank odor. Shutting off the bath fan will help restore "positive" air pressure in RV.
