I'm not sure I follow, exactly. All the tanks I've looked at are attached to drain and feed lines using hose clamps. The 70s model tank fittings seem really snug (hard to move the inserted lines even with the hose clamps loose). Polyethylene doesn't seem flexible enough to make a great seal, so I guess that's why the fittings are so close tolerance.

I don't think you need caulk or sealer.

well someone modified this a little, it's got a hard plastic line down from sink area, its 1.25" diameter with a ridge , when I ordered tanks I had to give hole sizes to have them custom made from inca plastics, they shipped them with the right diameter hole but they have like nipples on them that stick up about 3" so do I need to put like a hose with clamps? the tanks I took out were held together by the pressure of the tank only no seal or anything. so do i cut and use a piece of hose with clamps?

Can you post a photo of these "nipples"?

I am assuming that the nipples he is referring to are the flanges where the hoses would normally be clamped.
It seems that the old tank has been modified.

I would probably put a hose clamp around where the drain line enters the tank. That is if the tank is flexible enough. I can't imagine that it wouldn't leak without a clamp. i just finished changing the dump valves on our Argosy and noticed that the factory used a clamp and Vulkem where the valve and the blackwater tank came together.

so your saying the tube coming down from the rv should have a hose attatching it to the nipple with 2 hose clamps?

I assume you are talking about large nipples, the vent pipe on my BW tank is near 1 1/2 inches. There are specific repair couplings that have a silicone rubber sleeve with a stainless steel gathering wrap and two hose clamps spot welded onto it - They are sold in the plumbing section of DIY shops and are very handy for piecing in plastic repair sections on cast iron drains.

Just don't over tighten them - a little plumbers putty will help glue the splice onto the slick nylon to avoid it sliding around without having to crush the plastic tank nipple.

Is there any way that you might be able to post a photo of the offending area. It might help in diagnosing your concern.
