Macerator toilet in new Flying Cloud

We just purchased a new 2024 Flying Cloud bunk. I don’t know if this is new to the 2024 model, but it has a macerator toilet because the toilet is not close enough to the black tank for simple gravity operation.

Anyone have experience with these? Are they loud? Are they reliable? One of the things I love about AS’s is the lack of fancy mechanical systems. We had a Class A with a vac-u-flush system and I hated it. Ours never broke, but apparently they were a maintenance headache for many.

Congrats on your new Flying Cloud!

We have a Domestic macerator toilet in our '22 Classic. We like it. That being said, we had a learning curve. Had a clog, but believe it was related to our failing WFCO converter not keeping the batteries fully charged. BTW, if it clogs, just continue to flush it.

I winterize the fresh water system with good quality RV anti-freeze, did not want to risk freezing pipes or the toilet by using air only. So far, so good.

We did get a new toilet seat under warranty while at Jackson Center in October. The bumpers were not secured attached to the seat.

Hey guys, need some help. I searched and found this post. I’m camping and my toilet or macerator on my 2021 Flying cloud 30fb isn’t working. It just stopped. I press the switches and nothing out of nowhere. I checked the fuse box and the 20 amp fuse is good. Any advice where to locate the macerator? I’m searching underneath and it’s all sealed and don’t know where to look.

Sorry to hear you are having problems. Did you actually check the fuse? Those LED indicators do not always light up with a blown fuse. You may have to pull the toilet away from the bulkhead. You can find pics online of the innards of the toilet, I have the Dometic 8700. I have also learned you can use a plunger on these to clear a clog, like at home. Good luck.

I have attached a troubleshooting for the Dometic 8700. I don’t know if your Airstream came with this type toilet. Is your black tank full? That may prevent it from flushing. My toilet is mounted to the deck, against the wall. If 12V is getting to the macerator, it may be faulty, or a wire is broken, or black tank is full, etc. Good luck.

The macerator and water heater are my least favorite things in my airstream. I prefer simple, but here we are. The good news is I think since the masticator chews everything up, black tank flushing is more straightforward.

I have to agree. But, we had the Alde serviced (2 year mantenance) in Elkhart, and it works well. The macerator has clogged three separate times, but a plunger works. The macerator keeps the tank debris flowing.
