How do you clear a stopped up black water tank?
I set up my trailer and connected it to the septic tank. The first few times I dained the black water tank, no problem. Now when I pull the drain release, I don't hear anything coming from the black water tank. Its like it plugged up. If it is plugged up, what can I do. Should I insert a hose from the toilet end? Or up the drain pipe end? Please help as the tank is filling up.

All stopped up
Two things that should work. The "Magic Wand" that you put down the hole and swish and swish will help but after that make sure your grey tank is full. With the black tank valve open release the grey water. The sudden rush of water will pull any plugged up black water problem with it. I've been able to help several folks here in our campground with the same problem. Let me know. After the "Fix" is complete, make sure your black valve closes all the way. If it leaks a wee bit your problems will continue. Good luck.

I cleaned out my black tank by putting in a couple of gallons of water with 10 pounds of ice cubes, then pulling the trailer for about an hour. Unfortunately, my tank was bad and I made a mess at a truck stop...

One quick comment - is the rod to the actual valve body pulled free? Some rods are threaded into the plastic slide and have a tendancy to strip out and not actuate the valve. You may think you are operating the valve and pull the rod but it may not be open.
Just a thought.
And I second the "no pictures" request......

Lewster said it right in his post #5 located in the thread mentioned above.
Its worth NOT having all the potential problems and mess by just calling a pro RV pump out service. They know how to get it clean with no mess. Cheap by any measure.

Okay, there is a do-it-yourself movie out there on just that subject involving air pressure and friends. It stars Robin Williams and is called "RV". Its a hoot!

Thanks to all who gave input on how to clear the tank. It turned out to be easier than I expected. Following your advice, I filled the septic tank to the top, I filled the grey water tank to the top. Then I let them both go simultaneously and whooooooshhhh. It all came a tumbling down.

Glad to hear it worked. Like I said, I've seen it do the trick several times. Keep the threaded rod in mind each time you dump. I gently tap my black rod with a rubber mallet each time I close to assure it's seated all the way. The "Brown Mountain Blues" is no fun. Happy dumping.
