Grey tank
I am looking for a pre-70's Airstream. I noticed that the earlier models do not have grey water tanks. Is it difficult to install one? Do I need one? We did own a fifth wheel and had the luxury of one but do not imagine not having a grey water tank.
Thanks, Neil.

I'm not sure when they became a standard feature but I do know that the one on my '68 Trade Wind is a retrofit. The easist way to go is to get a 'blue' tank and use that.

Neil,
Grey tanks became standard in about 1974, what year was your fifth wheel?

From the best I can determine they were optional in 1973-74 became standard equipment in 1975, however be forewarned that the they are miniscule....IIRC the one on my rear bath 1975 is a whopping 10 gallons about enough for a good shower or two sinks full of dirty dishes I don't think they increased the size until into the 80's.

balgrn,
Ya made me go look You must have a center bath? In the 1975 Sovereign rear bath the black tank is 20 gallons and the gray is 10....I guess Airstream just figured us 31' rear bath owners were full of it

Someone once told me that a lot of the blue tanks develop holes in the bottom, even when they are brand new. Anyone else know about this phenomenon?
