Flowing Drain Question

I'm so new to Airstream ownership that I'm not exactly sure what I purchased. I know it is 18ft with plaque that says Caravel and I think it is 1972. Anyway let's begin with the learning process.

I connect up running water and open the kitchen sink valve, water begins to flow. Yippee! Water also flows out the 3" (?) dump connection. When I pull the T-handle control out there is an effect on the water flow draining but not much. I'm thinkin that pulling out on the T-handle should fully open the dump valve and pushing in should close it. When pushed in there should be zero flow? Am I on the right track or is there another valve somewhere to consider?

Thanks in advance! I promise to improve my AS vocabulary as time goes on.

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle

First off, welcome to the Forums, We're glad to have you with us.

Your assumptions are correct. When the holding tank valve is pushed in completely, the valve should be closed. When it is pulled out, it should be open to drain. It sounds like your valve may a problem. It is probably not closing completely.

In 72 there was no gray tank and the water should flow right out of the drain. The dump valve is for the black (toilet) tank. It sounds like your system is working as designed. It you can not dump gray where you are camped, you need to get an external portable holding tank (tote).
