Do I remove this connector?

Do I need to remove the connector in the picture before I connect the toilet flange. The PO had the flange sitting in this connector with a wax seal between them. That just doesnt seem right.

The flange for the toilet must be matched to the toilet. RV toilets have bolted connections at the floor, at least those that I have experience with. I think you will need to remove that and replace it with one to match your toilet.

You will need the gasket for your specific toilet. It most likely will be a foam in the shape of a doughnut.

Look for the brand and model number of your toilet and use those to search for parts you need.

Hey Alan,

Thank you! Are you pretty sure that piece needs to be removed? I have tried to unscrew it but so far it wont budge.

Also, the flange I have is exactly like the one in the link you provided.

My vote is that the foam ring goes on the thing in your photo ...
At least I remember something similar on ours when I worked on it.

Hi,
The black threaded plastic piece you have in the picture is half of an old style two piece toilet flange. You must remove that piece to install a modern single piece toilet flange like AW Warn linked above.

From VTS you need a version B or J depending on the thickness of your sub-floor.

How was the toilet attached to the floor or this flange?
It appears that the flange has been sealed with glue or epoxy. It is almost certainly threaded into the tank, but sometimes folks will do something silly like glue them in when they are stripped or the tank fitting cracks. (Usually from overtightening.)
The flange shown would use a foam seal as others have indicated, but it doesn't appear to have any holes for the bolts. I'm assuming that the toilet clamps down to it.

Anyway, let us know how toilet was attached and whether you are reusing toilet or not.
