Black water tank gate valve leaking

We have a 1986 31' Sovereign with center bath. Can anyone tell me what kind of gate valve I should purchase before I pull the old one?

The original was a Thetford, though it could have been changed over the years. I suggest looking at it before ordering a new one. You may need a tank adapter too.

I would definitely by a new tank adapter. They crack with age. Both of mine cracked last year.

What is the adapter ? Are you talking about the trailer side coupling for the waste hose?

The adapter is a piece that "adapts" the valve to the tank. They're notorious for cracking and leaking. Last year, I replaced what I thought was a leaking valve and ended up being a cracked & leaking adapter. I still replaced both while I had it all torn apart.

The adapter is shown in the links in post #2, as an accessory to one of the valves.

Thanks for the advice. I'm taking a small, educated gamble now. I've ordered a Thetford seal kit and new slip- in flange (adapter). If I'm wrong I'll be shipping back for a new and costlier valve assy. Vintage Trailer Supply is awesome for parts at a reasonable cost and fast to ship.
