Black Tank
I have been doing some minor clean up the last few days and checking everything before we start our vacationing again.Well...I noticed when I filled up the black tank I have a small leak at the sensor where the dump valve is.
I just want to make sure before I do anything else to it so I just went and dumped everything out of the tanks so they are now empty. am I able to just screw it off and retape it to seal it back.It has a grey telephone wire hook up on it.It is really easy to get to since it is outside behind the valve where you let your Airstream take a big dump.

hi devoman...
tank may look empty...
but it likely isn't,
position trailer with tongue jack,
so sensor is slightly up hill...
this will reduce the drainage
when sensor/plug is removed...
first unplug rj-11 phone cord...
sensor should unscrew with finger force only.
wear gloves...
some may use teflon tape on the threads
but the tank AND sensor are already made from polybutyl like product
so the tape isn't needed really.
clean threads with soft cloth
clean sensor with soap/water...
gently so, inside inner recess
screw back in again finger tight
plug rj-11 line in again...
tape on threads suggests to me
an early leak that was 'fixed'
so take a peek at the threads
on tank open and sensor
see any damage?
cheers

Cool Thanks
Going out to do this A.S.A.P.
I am trying to solve whatever issues I have now so I can fix them without having trouble when out on the road.I want to be as lazy as possible.
I will still be working a bit from the Airstream though..

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS!Seems like these lil' critters wanted to make a home for themselves and did it right here. What should I do to get rid of these things. Is there anything else to use that is strong for a one time Enema for the black tank.Check them out just chillin in the sensor thinking they are not gonna get caught for partying so hard in the dream home they thought they had.

hi devo....
you have slugs or snails in the black tank?
gives a whole new meaning to escargot...
i've not seen that before...
what's next gators in the gray tank?
snakes in the shower drain?
could they have climbed on via the outside drain?
might want to look inside the cover and main pipe...
i don't want to think about other entry routes...
thanks for sharing....

oh yea, how to get rid of 'em...
call the dealer or an rv shop...
this must be common in florida,
so perhaps others from the sunshine state will offer advice.
normally no one suggests or uses formaldehyde based tank treatments...
but this might be one time where using a formaldehyde product is sensible...
it would kill them.
there are also specific snail killers...
perhaps give a call to steve irwin...
cheers

How do you suppose they got in there in the first place?

Hey NO WAY man - your rig is set up with the new waste treatment system technology. (See another thread on composting RV toilets)
Sort of like when Grandma tossed in liver into the septic tank - they eat poop - so you could boondock longer
Just pulling your chain - had no idea slugs could get in your black tank - someone must have flushed something with either a slug baby or eggs on it ya think????

Tank
That is what I am trying to figure out also Is how they got in there. The Airstream just hit 6 months old.We took it out a few times right after we got it.I thought everything was sealed tight on this thing (Meaning the black tank ,grey tank and fresh water tank.)but I guess that shows that nothing is impossible for even the smallest of critters to get in to things.I am really intrested in to what they are but so far I have found nothing yet.I think I am going to take it to a full service campground here soon in the next couple of weeks when I get a chance to and clean the system out thoroughly.Right now I am going to do what I can to just keep up with it to run water thru it and keep flushing it out.

I would guess that they got in the tank when you went to rinse it out. Maybe you picked up a hose that was sitting on the ground that they crawled into.

Devoman.
What are you eating??? Maybe you need more roughage !
Seriously though, could they/it have come in through the roof vent? Were they still alive?
I don't know if a little bleach and water would take 'em out.
Curious.

Tank
I was also thinking about that as well.Could they have went in through the vent pipe.It seems the bugs were dead becase they were not moving. Then again they could be intelligent and played possum on me.
One of them were fresh and still together and one or two of them looked like they just shed there skin. The other one was really small so I could not tell if it was alive or not either.
If I were to use bleach to clean it out do you all know if this is a no no or is it ok to do as long as I clean it out 2 to 3 more time before I start using it again with the black tank chemicals Or should I get the really good stuff and clean the Airstream colon with one dose.
