I understand that there is no gray water tank in the trailer and that sink and shower water goes straight to the exit. But does waste from the toilet have to first go through the black water tank, or can it exit directly as well? Also, there are two waste exits, one under the left side of the trailer and one in the bumper compartment. Which one do I use?
Thanks for any guidance!

I am nearly certain that the waste water plumbing on your Overlander has been modified. I would speculate that the waste drain at the rear bumper is the factory black water tank drain. I suspect that the one that is on the side of the trailer is most likely for a gray water tank that was added by a previous owner. The question with the gray water tank, if that is what it is, is whether it collects the water from the bathtub/shower as it appears to be awkwardly located in relation to the probable location of that drain.
When it comes to operating the black water side, you want to allow the black water tank fill to between 75% and 80% full before dumping -- otherwise, you will end up with an accumulation of solid waste in the bottom of the black water tank that is difficult to nearly impossible to remove. The gray water, however, at your discretion, could be allowed to drain into the septic continually without significant problem to your plumbing system, although you may notice sewer gasses coming into the trailer depending upon how this aftermarket tank was installed if it is left open at all times.
Good luck with your investigation!
Kevin
P.S.: I lived in my
1964 Overlander Land Yacht International for over 5 months while I was awaiting posession of a home that I purchased during a very tight housing market in 2000. I followed the black water tank dumping routine that I outlined above for that entire time -- I was in a full-hookup campground.
