67 Caravel New Black Tank & Drain with a 3" "Basement"

I have a new black and valterra valve ready to go in my trailer (67 Caravel) on the new subfloor.
The problem is the new valterra valve is about 1.5" longer than the original Thetford valve was.
I'm not sure how I should cut the opening in the new belly pan to accommodate the Valterra valve and fitting. Or is there another way around this?
If anyone has done this in their trailer I would much appreciate knowing how you did it. A picture would be super.
Thanks!

Hi dingo girl: Nice to see you are at it again. Me and those above floor tanks don't get along. I installed a new tank and new valterra valve in a 69 Globetrotter last winter. You won't like my installation, but it was the best I could think of. This trailer has a "wet" corner rear bath with a fiberglass "shower pan" and console covering the black tank. I would have to start over on the bath if I changed the design of the tank or dump valve plumbing. This bath is not a design award winner. I have this dump port hanging down at the rear street side of the trailer, just waiting for a steeper incline and a bumper drag to wipe it off the trailer. That is what happened to the old one.

Here is my thread on my little project. It has some photos that might stimulate your thinking, like "what was that guy thinking of?" Stimulation nonetheless.

What a kultz I am. Oh, you already knew that! Let me try again.

My little project thread is in the 65 to 69 Globetrotter Airstream Knowledge Base.

Here is one picture showing the parts stack up to mount a black tank dump valve and try to tee in a gray water drain too.

To make this work with out a lot of drain pipe sticking out the bottom of the trailer I've decided to go with a separate grey tank with its own drain valve.
So in the end I'll have a 3" drain on the street side for the black tank & a 3" drain for the gray tank on the curbside.
I can't figure out a better way to do this.
I'll post pictures when it's done.

I think that will be just fine. Some folks drain their gray tanks with a 3/4 garden hose screwed to the 3" cap on the gray tank. Some then have a connection to their sewer hose so the gray tank is always draining when you have a campsite with a sewer connection. Otherwise you can pull up to the dump station, dump the black tank, and then connect the slinky to the gray tank and dump that while at the same time rinsing the sewer hose with the gray water.

Don't get too excited and hastily make anything just yet. I went through just this on my Traveler. I kept the original black water tank and made some plumbing mods to have a gray discharge as well as a black/gray discharge.
I'll try and get you some pics in a day or two....came out great and I have plenty of clearance!

Pictures would be great! I'm just winding up the fresh water system then on to the drain system.

Here you go Dingo Girl.
The first pic shows the inside of my closet (Cedar Lined). The Plumbing is from the Kitchen Sink with the Vaterra Blade Valves as diverter valves to allow the gray water tank to be directed overboard or to the black water tank while the black water remains closed or open.
The second pic is from the outside showing that the black water tank has a Valeterra Blade Valve (right side) while the gray water has only the valves inside. I still need to replace the aluminum sheet on the belly pan but all in good time. I had to modify the Valterra fittings to keep good ground clearance.
Hope this makes sense.
