66 Globetrotter installing a larger black tank

We're considering installing a larger black tank and possibly tying in the grey water to it when we can't dump directly to ground.

There is the very small original tank under the toilet inside the trailer now and no grey tank. I'd like to tie the existing plumbing and vents into a tank mounted over the axle if possible

Looking for a source for tanks, mounting hardware and fittings.

Frame has been reinforced to take the extra weight from the axles back to the bumper.

When we did the refurbishment many years ago I had to plastic weld the fittings onto the tank, any change with that now?

We live in western NC and have access to a local restoration shop to help with the work.

I'd leave the black tank where it is and add a separate grey tank. Most likely that will be easier. There are multiple ways to add the grey. I installed 3 small grey tanks that are manifold together for 33 gals. Some install a single tank from Vintage Trailer Supply and I think that one is 27 gals.

Larger black tank upgrade

Looking for a larger black tank to expand upon the small one existing under the current toilet.

Would tie in the grey water if that worked out but is not a driving factor.

Any suggestions where to get a tank?

Have looked at Vintage trailer but they have a limited number to select from.

Thanks, Rob

The issue is finding a narrow enough tank to fit between your frame rails but shallow enough to maintain ground clearance. You are just going to have to do an internet search for RV waste tanks and go page by page through all of the PDF files to find one that suits your needs. There will be long lead times. Research and a good planning is a must. There really isn't a kit with everything completely engineered and ready to install. It's all custom.

You can have tanks custom-made for not too high a price. Vintage Trailer Supply can have these custom-made and there are likely other sources as well. They also sell tanks that will fit between frame rails. https://www.vintagetrailersupply.com...holding-tanks/

Consider your end goal. Do you want to be able to shower or just wash a few dishes?

Could you make do with a gray tank for the kitchen only? If so a simple solution is a gray tank directly under the kitchen sink. I managed to shoehorn a 17 gal tank in that space. (required building cabinet around the tank).

Hey, not entirely clear here, is your black tank above the floor and the only tank? In our '68 Overlander the only tank was black but it was under the floor and fairly large. I removed it. When I do my tanks I expose the rear-most bay of the frame and measure the space. I can usually fit 35 gallons in there if the rear of the frame has the few feet of extra drop down. Then I go to e-bay and search until I find what will work. Your first post almost sounded like you're considering having just one tank for both gray and black but being able to send the gray to another "outlet" depending on circumstances. It all goes to the same place eventually.
Good luck, Mark D

I renovated a 1966 Trade Wind 24', I think two model sizes longer than your Globetrotter. My Trade Wind had a rear bath. Knowing where your bathroom is located in the Globetrotter would be helpful. The black tank in the Trade Wind was woefully inadequate. See photo...

I installed two new tanks from Inca Plastics in California. They have an online catalog and I just thumb through until I find a tank that will work. I elect to drain the tanks under the frame rails and build a tank cover to protect them. I fully understand I lose ground clearance, but I gain it back with a higher lift axle. See photos.
