2021 Flying Cloud Dump Valves

Our 2019 25 ft FC had two latches for the Gray and Black dump valves.

We were somewhat surprised on our new 30 RB to see nice larger dump handles which is a plus but we were disappointed to see there were no Handle latches. We would hate to open the dump tube black cap and receive a surprise if someone wanted to just pull those rip cords.

Anyone come up with a latch system or is this a not to worry item they will not jiggle open while traveling. Or don't worry your gonna rip them off anyway unless you lift it 3 inches-

I wouldn’t worry. I have a 2017 30’ and there are no latches. I don’t have any issues…

Our 2007 22’ has no latches. No issues so far…

Hi

The main reason for the "latches" was to keep those specific handles from unscrewing. They were threaded on the shafts and if you were not careful about always using the latches, the handle fell off. Don't ask how I know this or how long the drive to the parts store was ....

With a different type of handle / fastened a better way ... no need for latches.

I always wondered what those latches were for, I thought it was just a nice 'finishing' touch from Airstream!

They actually mentioned using them as part of our walk through on the trailer. I remembered that right after I noticed the handle had come unscrewed and fallen off somewhere back on the highway

Thanks for the update, all appreciate it. Yes on our 25 those handles we’re always coming working loose.

Latches seem to be unique with Airstream. I've never seen them on any other system, even big motorhomes.
I agree, it's not security, it's to keep the handle from turning. Wouldn't a lock nut do as well?

Hi

There is a nut and washer on the shaft. It does a good enough job that you will be lulled out of using the clips .... Eventually the handle comes loose.
