Water pump - New to me!

Found beneath the forward sofa and adjacent to the water tank. This water pump on a 69 Tradewind is not one I've seen before! Ie, Not a Shurflo!!

It certainly sounds like it will push water all around the trailer, wiring away like a wild thing, but nought at the taps.
Anybody teach me any tricks to this doozy?
If push come to shove I'll strip her out and test her but not if there's a little button on the side that solves all problems!

That looks like an original Parr water pump. Parts can still be found to repair them. Most have been replaced by more common brands do to the cost.

Thanks for that. Are they known for diaphragm failures? I would imagine all that wirring I described - but no water - would indicate that. Being in the UK I think it might be best to take a look at a replacement Shurflo.

Failures with a Par pump, or later known as Jabsco??

Yes, they sure do, after about 30 to 40 years of great service.

The Jabsco pumps are still available.

Not cheap, but very reliable for many many years.

Those Jabsco pumps can be rebuilt, or the diaphragms replaced. They are cheaper than replacing the entire pump, though after all this time there may be other damage from age that will rear its ugly head when you start dismantling yours to make repairs.

I am still running on my Argosy's original 1978 PAR water pump. I know that the original owner rebuilt it once, and I have also had it rebuilt once. The rebuild kit that I purchased was under $50 and had me up and running in an afternoon (I carry an extra rebuild kit in my parts closet so I can take care of most failures while on the road).

You may have better luck finding parts if you check with boat and yacht dealers as Jabsco/PAR pumps are far more common in the boating industry. The following is a link to what I believe is a Jabsco distributor in England . . . link. I don't know whether the parts would be as readily available in Europe as they are in the US, but I have found keeping my PAR pumps in operation well worth the effort. The prior owner of my Overlander had changed out its original PAR, and when that brand X pump quit, I installed a new Jabsco/PAR pump very similar in design to the one in my 1978 Argosy.

Good luck with your Airstream!

Kevin

My '74 Par pump is still running after 39 years. No telling how many hours of actual run time is on it.

Three years ago I would have fixed the Par. But, Shurflo's are out there and I just bought one for $80! After all the fine words spoken in their honour I will put the Par on a shelf and recondition it one day. Marc
