Sanitizing the fresh water tank

Many moons ago I was an avid beer brewer. I used a product called Starsan to sanitize my tanks, fermenters and equipment. I’m now considering pouring a few ounces into my fresh water tank to sanitize it. I’m wondering if any of you have used Starsan this way, or if you use another product to sanitize your water tank. I added water to my tank a year and a half ago and it’s still about 15% full. I’d like to drain it completely and add fresh water, but would like to sanitize it first. Any advice would be most welcome.

Starsan is an acid based sterilizer that lends itself quite nicely to brewing. Rinsing after sterilizing is not necessary, it’s extremely safe and does not impart any “off” taste.

Since it is acid based, I would be worried what it will do to the plastic the tanks are made of. I would have to find something made of basicly the same material as the tanks and do a test to see how the plastic reacts to the sanitizer.
