Please! an honest answer?

Asked once before and didn't get an answer! Why did the Airstream engineers put the water fill on the curb side of the (2006 Classic). Why not by the city water side or direct from the city fill?

Would someone give me a logical answer!

Especially since I overflowed the tank and ended up with much water on floor and carpet inside.

If I knew, I'd give an answer!
I can only guess that it may have to do with the location of the fresh water tank. Another thought - if you want to fill from your hose at home, many, if not most folks, will park in front of the house to fill. That puts the fill closest to the yard and the faucet.
Sorry, that's the best I can come up with right now, maybe someone else will chime in.

Will ----The only reason I can think of is that it makes access to the filler hose easier . If you lift the floor of you closet you have access to the major plumbing components, pump ,filler hose connections, level sensor, etc. . If it were on the otherside they would have either the bath or the refridgerator to contend with. I fail to understand how over filling the fresh water tank would allow water to get on the carpet. It should just run out the filler or little vent at the neck. ---pieman

DUH, maybe it's so you won't fill up your fresh water tanks with the wash-off hose at the dump station, like the fellow I saw last summer at one of the Canadian Provincial Parks.

Your answer can probably be answered best by the same engineer who put the fresh water drain in a location that's practically impossible to access.

Hoenstly, I'd speculate that the real answer might have something to do with most economical location (as in "cheapest way").

So far, what happens if the water fill is on the other side of the house!

Dumb engineers is the closest answer so far!!!

Motorhomes have the fill ability through the city water connection by a simple flow valve. And the reason I now find out was the fill pipe wasn't installed properly, most likely by the engineers son following his fathers genius.

Doesn't matter where all the plumbing "stuff" is located, still just a matter of a little pipe and a valve.

Someone has to know the engineer who did this!

And why does the door on the 22' CCD swing open and block the view and operation of the window in the dinette,when it could easily swing in the other direction ?

It's there because that's where the water tank is. If you're overflow is dumping onto the carpet, your overflow tube is disconnected either at the tank or at the fill connection. Overfilling the tank should only result in water spewing out the overflow tube, NOT dumping onto your floor and carpet.

Since I have never looked at one, and since you said it was wetting your floor/carpet, I sure hope you aren't mistaking the black tank washout for the potable water fill! If you are,that would explain the wet floor.

Roger's response is the answer to the dousing of the inside of your trailer and it cannot be related to the roadside vs. curbside issue you raise.

My fresh water tank fill is roadside (locked under a small access door) -- this is right next to the city water hose attach point; the latter is immediately below the black tank flush. The city water and black tank flush both take the male end of a garden type RV hose. In Airstream's shoes I would probably decide this was a formula for problems. Instructions are to avoid using a potable water hose for the black tank flush -- and yes, I do carry an old hose in my rear bumper for the latter. I can't be sure that's the answer but if I'm close at all we should really be asking, "Will the Bambi & Safari lines get this same change?"

I vote for Roger's responce.There are many days that I wonder why I bought a 71. Then I see a post about a 2006 that runs water out onto the floor over something so simple as filling the water tank and wonder no longer. Sorry if that seems a little harsh.
