Al,

Looks like a few PEXLOCK clamps fittings are on the red line from the tank. If so, how'd they work for you?

I used the Flair-It PEXLOCK for all my PEX-to-PEX connections and the kitchen isolation valves. I had planned on using it for my hot water bypass but the existing setup was in good shape. I will also be using it when I re-do the city water & freshwater tank inputs.

I found their website (I ordered directly from Flair-It) to be poor, the order to delivery timeframe was never stated, but a person did pick up the phone when I called to inquire and I eventually got a shipment tracking number.

The PEXLOCK connection seems quite tight and was very easy to accomplish with a plumber’s wrench, especially in the tight confines I originally had in the hot water heater area. No leaks on the first pressure test, which beats out the push-to-connect AKA Sharkbite fittings. I used the push-to-connects to join old and new for the shower & bath, and also for the PEX-to-metal connection on the hot water tank. The push-to-connects are a bit more finicky about any sort of sideways pressure at the fitting but they do allow rotation where the PEXLOCK does not.

I ordered most of my re-plumbing parts from PEXUniverse and they were timely, responsive, and answered email and called in questions. They also have some excellent videos on YouTube that helped teach me a lot. Kudos to them! They unfortunately didn’t carry the PEXLOCK fittings, hence the additional order directly from Flair-It.

Long answer to a short question, but hopefully it helps Gary & anyone else wading into a project like this.

Al,

I found PEXLOCK info online and luckily a nearby mobile home specialist hardware store had a selection of them. What intrigued me was tools required, Channel Lock type pliers to set and a screwdriver to unlock. I bought a small supply but haven't had a chance to use one yet.

Thanks for report.

Gary

Hmmm, looks like you can get Pexlock stuff from Lowes.

Yes, Lowe’s does carry it and I’d recommend them over the Flair-It website. My local Lowe’s didn’t stick PEXLOCK and I mistakenly believed a direct from the manufacturer purchase would work out better. I wrote up my my experience so others could make an informed choice.
