Outside faucet not working

I cannot get the outside faucet to empty the water from my fresh water tank. I turned the knob by the water pump to activate the faucet. Water is pumping nicely through the toilet and bathroom sink. I disinfected the fresh water tank in preparation for traveling. I need to empty it and refill to rinse . Need help!

When you say outside faucet are talking about the valve by the fresh water tank? Mine is located between the tires. Not sure where yours would be.

Also there are 2 valves that open up the hot and cold water lines to drain them. Did you open those? Not sure if that would drain the tank however.

I think he is talking about the traditional hose bib in the lower compartment.
If so, there is a shutoff and a checkvalve inside the trailer. Mine is under the bath sink, by the water heater. This is in place to prevent pump water from reaching the bib during freezing weather. But it should work on shore water regardless of the shutoff valve position.

The bib should be opened and valve closed to drain the bits of line below floor level during freezing weather.
It is also a better way to drain water heater than removing the plug, but it will not drain the fresh tank nor most.of the plumbing.

Draining the tank is on page F-9 of the manual. Just like most other Airstream trailers, the petcock can be opened to drain the tank. Takes a while, but gets the job done.

My suspicion is that an attempt is being made to use the hose bib to drain the tank, but it won't do the trick unless the pump is running and you pump out all the water. Same could be done through any other sink faucet.

My unit is a 2006 Classic. I should have stated that in the original post.

I’m a female, but no worries, I’m not traumatized. I should have stated that I have a 2006 Classic. Hope this will give you more info to help me solve the problem. I appreciate your input.

Yes - I was looking at the manual for a 2006 Classic. Virtually all the manuals from recent decades are available on airstream.com

Thank you for the info. I didn’t know if there are any differences for this for model and year. My late hubby was old school and thought he should take care of the outside (so to speak) and I should take care of the inside. I am real good at holding the flashlight though[emoji23]

Probably a big yes on the similarities. I recently saw someone else’s unit parked nearby and did notice the unit didn’t have the doors to cover the fresh water inlet. Also didn’t have the fresh water holding tank door that locked. I am not knowledgeable enough to know what each years models have that’s different. It’s more than enough just getting a good understanding of my particular unit. Appreciate all of the help.

On my unit , behind the door that houses the city water inlet and the black tank rinsing connection, there is a standard outside water faucet. It can be connected to a water hose just as one would on a standard S&B house. It is working normally on city water but not when I turn off city connection and turn on the water [emoji98] pump. That’s my dilemma.

Is this the same valve used to bypass the water heater when wintering the unit?

Here's the information from your manual about turning on the outside water faucet. It lists a few places the valve might be, and mentions that it might be near the water heater bypass valves.

Quote:
EXTERIOR WATER SERVICE
Also in the utility compartment is a hose connection with a shut-off valve. This is plumbed into the high-pressure water system of the trailer. This is an ideal place to rinse the sand off your feet after going to the beach, cleaning mud off your boots and hundreds of other messy jobs that are better done outside of your trailer. During freezing weather this line should be drained. Shut off the valve inside the lavatory and leave the exterior valve open.

NOTE: On some units only the exterior water service shut off valve will be located inside the lavatory cabinet. On others there may be up to five valves located inside the F cabinet. Three of these are used as the water heater by-pass system as described in the winterizing section. Another may be for the toilet shut off. The fifth valve is for the exterior water service. Always check to see if the water supply has been cut to the exterior service before using the rest of the water system in freezing weather.
