Original 1964 Water Pump

I finally got around to checking out the fresh water pump in my Airstream today. I hadn’t done it yet because I was sure it was going to be broken and I really didn’t feel like replacing it yet so I put off checking it out. Since I’ve now sold the other Airstream and I’m feverishly spending the money on my “new” 1964 Airstream, I finally decided to confirm that the water pump is indeed dead so I could order a new one. I turned off the hose, went in and flipped the switch and turned on the faucet, fully expecting to hear nothing. Then it happened, I heard a sound from the back of the trailer and water started coming out of the faucet. Then it got kind of brown and then it quit. I took the aerator off the faucet and turned it back on. A bunch of mud came out of the faucet and then it started to run clear. It just kept running and running. I turned the faucet off and it stopped. I turned the faucet back on and it started up again. That may not seem that incredible most of the time, but considering this is the original 1964 pump, I’m pretty impressed. It may make a bit more noise than the new ones, but it’s a keeper.

Congratulations! Isn’t it great to discover unexpected jewels on these old Airstreams ! I retained the original water pump on my 1970 Overlander. Runs quietly, works like a charm and there are rebuild kits available !

Those OEM PAR water pumps are wonderful devices. My Overlander didn't have any water pump in it when I purchased it in 1995, but after a little investigation, I purchased a PAR with no regrets. I carry an appropriate rebuild kit in both my Overlander and Minuet. If my memory serves. PAR is now a division of Jabsco, but I am not certain.

yep JABSCO ITT now. These pumps are not very energy efficient but parts are still available. Just my advice upgrade to a SHURFLO (JABSCO came out with a similar pump).

While my Overlander's original water pump still works, it leaked from a crack too much to use in the Airstream.

But I was able to re-purpose both it and my Overlander's Univolt for pest control:
