Exclamation Newby Fresh Water Lesson Learned

Bought a '94 Excella Classic 30' about a month ago, and slowly began checking things out. Report was "everything works fine", but this was from an inexperienced owner who only used the unit four days.

After firing up the water heater, a leak developed in the "belly box" just below the bathroom on the unit. Since this was concurrent with the first use of the water heater, I thought the heater unit must be defective or have a leak.

Proceeded to pull the unit out, didn't find any "smoking gun" of a leak, but did find some discoloration in parts of the fiberglass insulation jacket. Ordered a new Atwood GA6-8E heater ($451) to install.

Then I noticed something: With the heater completely out of the unit---there was the leak! I knew then it had to come from one of three sources: Drinking water tank, Black Water tank or Gray Water tank.

It was confirmed the culprit is the Gray water tank by pouring water down the kitchen sink and watching the leak reappear.

The good news is we will have a new water heater for an otherwise excellent unit, and I'm still way below the cost of a new one!

Lessons Learned:

1. Use the forums, ask questions
2. Keep investigating before investing
3. When you are new to something, keep asking questions!
