Newbie with a leaking pressure regulator

Just got my 74 29' Ambassador, rear bath, and I'm having old trailer issues, both electrical and plumbing. This is the most immediate plumbing issue.

When the trailer is hooked up to city water, the internal pressure regulator reduces pressure by spraying water all over the rear compartment. My RV park manager says these days most RVs use a pressure regulator on the hose.

Would it be OK to just remove the internal regulator, replace it with straight pipe, and use an external regulator on the hose? Or would it better to go with the original design and replace the internal regulator? Or is there yet another way?

similar problem to you.

Will watch this to see what comments you come up with. My wife and I just pulled our couch out and noticed that our pressure regulator had been leaking as well. Also, ours was mounted right next to our furnace, even though the instructions clearly state; not to mount near heating source. Ours is still laying on my workbench. Would be nice to just replace with hard tubing and use an outside pressure regulator. Bev and Pat
