Needed, drain plug for hot water tank!
I was blowing out my lines this weekend in preparation for the cold temps up north. One of the things I like to do is pressurize the whole system to 40 psi or so once the hot water tank has emptied and then slowly unscrew the plug to the hot water tank and screw it back in and repeat. This really vaporizes whatever water might be left in the tank and cleans it out. Well you guessed it, I didn't hold onto the plug tight enough and it shot out into the ground and I could not find it.
This is on a 1979 31' International. I'm not sure of the make of the hot water tank. Anybody know where I can get a replacement or even what size thread it is?

Most RV stores will have them. I carry a spare.

I think they are all the same (1/2 inch pipe thread). At least all of them that I have seen are the same. The former owner of one of my units replaced the plastic drain plug with a petcock that works like the old radiator drains. No reason to remove anything - just open the valve.
As an aside - you are not alone. Friend was winterizing his 5th wheel - plug is somewhere in his neighbors woods!

I carry a spare brass one from Home Depot - about a $1.50 in the plumbing department. They do have the plastic for PVC pipe but I doubted its pressure rating. If there is room, you could add a boilier valve (like a water faucet) and save yourself the effort next time. No tools will be needed.

As one of the guys previously mentioned, the plugs are vary inexpensive. You can get a kit for under $10 at CW. Plugs under $5 at HomeDepot. They also have Anode Rod kits w/plug for under $20 at CW .

I don't know, that plug part that blew out was pretty small. I'd have to think that plugs for household hot water tanks would be significantly bigger.....

All true, BUT - the plug you need is surely not a strange thread size so a bit of looking at HD will get you the plug you need - they have all sizes in brass in the plumbing section. It would not be a water heater plug but a generic water line plug.

Hmm, I'll have to check in the brass section. I struck out in both the Hot Water heater section at HD and the local RV shop. Wish I new the OD of the plug but I no longer have it
