Help with water pump winterizing

Help with water pump

I am planning to winterize my 2007 25FB international, I’m installing a “Camco pump converter winterizing kit”.
The kit includes a valve that attaches to the vacuum/pick-up side of the pump and via an attached hose is used to draw antifreeze directly from the bottle to winterizeClick image for larger version

I have a basic question about the pump and one I hope someone can answer.

Question: On which side of the pump is the vacuum/ pick-up fitting? I have included several pictures of my Pump set up. Which side of the pump is the vacuum/pick-up fitting located?

I understand I could attach the converter valve to the pipe on the side of the pump that is visible in the pictures. Turn on the pump and see what happens.

I want to do it right the first time … can someone help?

Thank you Forum readers and thank you for all your help.

The visible side of your pump appears to be the output side of the pump. There should be an arrow on the pump to indicate the flow. Also the input (other side) should have a small plastic screen/filter assembly. On my 2002 the input is very close to the wheel well on the opposite side of your pictures.

Or you can just drain the freshwater tank, dump in a couple of gallons of antifreeze, and run the pump to winterize. Then drain the tank again. I tossed the winterizing kit in the trash after I figured out how much trouble it is to get to the pump area under the closet floor and all the stuff my wife carries there.

Once you put antifreeze into the freshwater tank it can be very difficult to get it all out. There is not a good way to flush out the freshwater tank.

dabhunter....I can't tell from your pictures where the line from your water tank connects to your pump. Most water pump installations have a clear plastic strainer device installed in the line running from from the water tank to the inlet of the pump to prevent any debris from entering the pump. It is usually installed very close to the pump. Check your connections to the pump and see if you can find one with the water filter. That will be the inlet line to your pump. Once you get the kit set up it makes winterizing a breeze

When installing the winterizing valve be very careful to install it in the correct orientation. If it is installed backwards it will not draw antifreeze through the tube. My valve was installed by a certified Airstream factory trained technician, but apparently he was not certified factory trained to install winterizing valves. 😂😂

First and foremost do not put antifreeze in your freshwater tank - you will never get the taste out. We relocated the pump and installed a Camco Winterize Kit go to our Blog Post to read about it (has pictures ).https://www.marriedwithairstream.com...mp-relocation/ Life is now "easy peasy"

Do you have the pump manual? Can you see the pump label and Google the pump? If either you should be able to figure the flow through the pump. Good luck. I use and like the system you are trying to hook up.

Welcome Aboard...🇺🇸

I did the "pump AF thru method once...
The "add AF to the FW tank and pump thru" for three seasons. 🤢
Finally...after getting a proper garage compressor, the "AF in all traps and blow the system", 13 seasons SFSG
👍

Just turn on the pump for a second and watch the bubbles. The valve goes on the side of the pump where the water enters.

That's quite a title for a bypass valve!

Since it is going to bypass the water inflow (from the tank) to the pump, detach the water inflow pipe/tube from the pump, insert the Camco bypass valve there by connecting the fresh water pipe/tube to one side of the valve and connect the other side of the valve to the pump.

When the valve lever is parallel/aligned-with the valve, then the pump with pull water from the fresh water tank, when the valve lever is perpendicular to the valve, it will pump from the tube that came with the Camco valve which needs to be slipped into a pink anti-freeze gallon.

Don't forget when you are done winterizing to return the Camco bypass valve lever back to its parallel-to-valve position, or you will be pumping air next spring when you de-winterize; your water pump won't turn itself off (don't ask why I know this...).

thank you to all those who replied

Thank you all for your responses.

I had hoped the pump input was facing out with easy access but not so.

I know now that I have to pull the pump out
to attach the new valve.

It could be worse ...... could have frozen pipes.

Thanks again
