fresh water tank in '76 Sovereign

We just purchased our first AS and have discovered that PO removed the freshwater tank that looked to have been located under the kitchen counter/behind the oven. I would like to replace this tank but have no idea what size or shape I should be shopping for. Does anyone have any ideas?

Question

The fresh water tank in my 31' 1976 Sovereign is under the floor just under the oven. The fill hose is just to the rear of the door. I have not seen a fresh water tank behind the over above the floor in 70 model Airstream's. All you can see of the tank in mine is the fill hose connecting to the tank at floor level.

How do I access the tank then? Mine might also be under the floor. There is a hole in the subfloor below the fresh water fill port.

mine is a '77 but I assume the same.

there is a huge pan under the center by the sink, there is an 8x8 plate in the center.

Here is the frame (including fresh water tank) of the 1977 Sovereign,:

Hear are the details of the FW tank, including instructions on removal and re-installation:

BUMP
I am bumping this thread because of the great diagram's Aage has included in his post.
Do you get this information in a owner's manual? As you might guess I am fixing to drop my FW tank and either fix it or replace it.
Search on this site is Great.
Thanks for the post

Chances are good you can buy a replacement fresh water tank from Inca Plastics in California. Visit their website, down load their catalog, and first study the Airstream pages. It might be in there.

Or you could ask an Airstream dealer to source it for you. There would be a significant mark up of course. But you would get the right tank.

Were you able to find a new fresh water tank with the center void for mounting, and if so where? Thanks.
