Fresh Water Tank

I’m curious what others do regarding the fresh water tank when storing for a few weeks. I know it will be about 6 - 8 weeks before we use our TT again. Currently there is about 20% capacity in the fresh water tank.

Is it best to fill the tank, or empty the tank, or just not worry about it while stored and fill before next use? We do use the water for cooking, brushing teeth, and washing dishes.

If it's me, I prefer to keep my tank mostly full. I feel like the moisture is likely to be productive for growing bad things everywhere like the top of the tank. Look online there's a standard formula for adding bleach to long term water storage, I think it is about 1/2 tsp. per. gal of water. I use a funnel and a short clear hose to add it to the tank first. This is good for a year.

We drain our tank when storing for a few weeks, and pull the low point drain lines too (make sure you open faucets when you open the low points to drain). When we're ready to use the trailer again, we open the tank drain, and run water through it for a few minutes before starting to fill. Gets all the "old" water out. You can run the pump for a minute or so with the low points open to clear out those lines too. We would not not not trust water left in the trailer for more than a week. Even camping, we use our tank water before hooking up to site water when available so that the water isn't just sitting in the tank fermenting.

Well, our AS is at a dealer this summer and is currently getting repaired for storm damage that occurred in late May. When I get it back I will drain the tank and fill it with fresh city water, and use that water to flush the lines of stale water. After that is the water looks and smells good we are should good to go, however if at that time I question the quality I will use a little bleach, drain and refill. Water does not "ferment" and develop bacteria issues unless contaminated by filling from a questionable (and contaminated) source. BTW I have over 50 years experience as a research scientist working with water quality. Never fill your tanks from any water source that is not an approved (and treated) drinking water system ie, city water.
