It could be antifreeze or some other contaminant. It seems that cheaper RV antifreeze has a stronger taste and smell (and auto/truck antifreeze for the radiator certainly does and it dangerous for humans). We sanitize the system twice a year—in the spring and midsummer. Best to do so now. Blow it out, fill with some chlorine mixed in (check other threads for the formula or your owners' manual), flush with fresh water and blow out each time. I find 3 times fresh water flushing usually gets rid of any antifreeze taste. It doesn't take much to contaminate potable water and after years of no sanitizing strange things can grow in those tanks and pipes.
