Everpure Cartridge and Winterizing
Well, we winterized the Airstream last weekend and put it into storage yesterday. It is in a locked building which technically we can't get into until spring. I just realized that I forgot to remove the Everpure water filter cartridge. We did run the RV antifreeze through it since we replace it every spring, anyway. Last year I removed the cartridge and brought it home, but this year I forgot. Do you think it will cause a problem or are we OK? I could probably sweet talk the caretakers into letting me in the building.
BTW: When we ran the "pink stuff" through it the water kept coming out clear so we weren't sure but decided that the filter was probably removing the color. Just to be safe, Hubby dipped his finger into the running water and touched it to his tongue. He made this face so we know it made it through.

Hi Mrs_R -- I would suspect your cartridge is adequately winterized. It may be toast and need to be replaced in the spring -- or at least I've always heard that the carbon filters are done when pink stuff is run through.

I did this last year and replaced it with a new filter from Ebay in the spring. Supposedly there is a cap that you can use to bypass and run the antifreeze straight through but I never received one with my AS.

Thanks for the tip on filters, I found the one in my 1975 Airstream, it is a ADC quick connect unit, but wow 50 bucks!

Check out Camping world.
They are cheaper there and they usually have a smaller version of the canister for sale in two packs.
I think the small ones would be fine if you only camp on weekends etc.
With the full size filters I wrap it in a freezer bag and reinstall the next season.
Since my water is municipal it does me just fine for two seasons.

We remove ours every year and I blow the lines. I hate having all that junk in my 'fresh' water system. If you did run the anti-freeze through your system you will be fine, just remember to replace the filter after your first fresh water pass.

Thanks for the advice and reassurance.
As a matter of fact we do replace it before the first trip every spring. When we bought the airstream last year I found a sort of manual for the everpure system online and it mentioned the cap used for winterizing. We didn't get one with our A/S either. I found a place that sells them but we figured we could just run the antifreeze through the old cartridge while winterizing as long as we replaced the cartridge in the de-winterizing process in the spring. Last year I did remove the cartridge post winterizing but pre- storage so I would have it as a reference when ordering it's replacement.

For those with the newer Safari and the Moen Choiceflo 9000/9001 filter system the best price I could locate on new filters was about $24 each at Faucet Depot: Moen Faucets, Delta Faucets, Grohe Faucets, Insinkerator Disposals. Shipping was only $6.99 for two. They probably have filters to fit other units too.

I thought you could get the filters at Lowe's. The one in the photo doesn't look like the one for my faucet. The one for my Moen is long and thin. These look shorter and thicker in the photo.

If you did in fact displace the water in the filter by drawing anti freeze through the filtered dispencer the canister should be fine from a freezeing standpoint.
