Choice of Hose for Fresh Water

Fellow Campers, some advice please - we are not new to Airstreaming, but we seem to have a perennial problem with our fresh water hoses. They supercoil and kink no matter how hard we try to keep them coiled smoothly. The kinking and supper coiling leads to cracks and leaks, our latest hose a good looking white hose with a blue stripe from ACE hardware is very stiff at cool temperatures, (when breaking up camp in the morning...) and a bear to coil and uncoil.

Even with 2 people untwisting it before hooking it up to the trailer, when we go back to coiling it up a couple of days later to pack it away it will not coil smoothly. We did try an orange plastic gizmo that you feed one end of the hose through and wind up but it did not work well either.

We have carefully uncoiled it and stretched it out in the sun to let it warm up - but once it cools down it is back to being hard to handle.

So what hoses do other people use that they are happy to recommend. I don't care about the colour, I can colour code it with electrical tape.

Many thanks for your advice - looking for a new hose before our next trip.

I always fill my fresh water tank, rather than hooking up to city water, and carry one of those super slinky green ones that collapses down to a few handfuls of hose.

Works great, been using this exclusively 4-5 years or so.

I love the GatorHyde Drinking Water Safe Garden Hose. I have had a 100' GatorHyde hose for garden use for almost 9yrs and it still looks and functions great.

I too have the same problems with hoses....I've had several different ones all with the same issues.

Does anyone have experience with the Zero –G Hose sold at Camping World?

Is it flexible in cold weather? Does it kink when unspooling it?

I've read some good reviews from the GatorHyde so I picked one up on Amazon. It's also from my hometown of Eugene, OR so that's a plus. I'll let you know how I like it this weekend once I pull chocks for Lake Gaston.

We have been using drinking water safe curly hoses for a number of years now. We have been very satisfied with their performance and longevity. They are easy to store without kinking.

I have just reviewed the information on the Zero-G Hose. These look very interesting.

I have this hose also and am liking it very much. Haven't been thru hard cold yet but it will be much easier to handle than the white hoses.

I've been using the same one of those for at least 10 years- with so signs of it giving up.

The $25 blue RV fresh water hose in the RV Accessories section in Walmart has been working fine for us.

A word of caution...many of the "slinky" self collapsing hoses are not rated for drinking water. Make sure the one you are using is rated for potable water...if in doubt, call the mfgr or seller to make sure.

The Zero-G hose is rate for drinking water (not sure if that is what you were referencing)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Tough G-Force woven fiber jacket resists leaks, abrasion and punctures. Stays flexible even in down to 35F. 600+ psi burst rated. Crush-proof couplings. Lead-free and drinking water safe. Made with FDA-sanctioned materials.
