Better Sanitizing

As a 'home brewer', there are products available which chemically dissolve 'buildup'/ gunk in the brewing system. There are also products which chemically 'kill' any bacteria.

Has anyone tried or considered using some of those?

I haven't. Unscented Clorox bleach is approved for treatment and sanitizing of drinking water supplies by no less than the EPA, FEMA, the Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization. It's cheap and readily available, and it works. Why mess with success?

Bleach is too simple and inexpensive to even think about something else.
