'74 argosy water?

Just bought a 1974 argosy 24'. When I turn the 12v pump on the water pumps out the city water hook up (not form the sink). Is there some sort of a valve that is broken or open? If so where is it? or can I just screw in a garden hose shut off to stop the flow at the city input.
thanks in advance
Sky

Welcome fellow Argonaut! We love our Argosy24.

There should be a checkvalve to prevent that. It's either been removed or it's stuck. For a short-term fix for boondocking, you could just cap the city fill. Before you actually hook up city water, you want to have the checkvalves working because there's another one-way valve to stop the city pressure from flowing to the pump and fresh water tank.

that was quick. Any clue where those valves may be or should have been?
as a side note it did not back fill the tank when it was hooked to city water, so I guess it must have at least one valve in place.
Thanks

According to Airstream there aren't any service manuals for Argosy trailers, but I have a '75 Airstream service manual. Looking at the water distribution system for 23 & 25 ft '75 Airstreams, it shows the water inlet, then the regulator assembly a little inboard of the inlet with a checkvalve listed as part of the regulator assembly. There is no indication that the drawing is to scale, but it looks like it's within 2' of the inlet.

In my '74 26' Argosy all of the valves etc are located in the closet of the rear bath. I remodeled the bath and installed PEX tubing throughout. I installed a ball valve in place of the check valve for city water, that way I know for sure that it is on or off.
