ZipDee pull strap repair

All my previous trailer awnings had a removable pull strap that could be slid to the end and removed. When I saw that my current trailer's pull strap was rotted on the end from the sun, I thought it would be a simple replacement.
Instead, I had to come up with a repair because my strap is sewn into the awning fabric.
First is the photo of the rotten strap, followed by the repaired strap made from 1" webbing and riveted on. The "large side" of the rivets rub on the aluminum cover, not on the awning which would otherwise wear.

We'e got the same problem withour awning pull strap. It looks like you used rivets to hold the strap in place. Where there any interference issuses with the rivet heads?

See my edited post. If someone were handy with a machine, it could be sewn and may look more professional. The machine would have to be moved to the awning as the strap won't come off.

Thanks for the clarification. Using a sewing machine would definitely be a logistics nightmare!

did you contact z/d about a free replacement strap? was this not covered?

for older awnings replacing the ENTIRE STRAP might be a better approach.

simply remove the strap at the roller (cut the stitching or drill out the rivet...

then re-rivet to the ROLLER

or use brass grommets on the cloth (less desireable) which would also provide drainage.

Nope. Eight year old trailer and third owner, it never crossed my mind. I just fixed it.

for older awnings replacing the ENTIRE STRAP might be a better approach.

If it turns out to be the case, nothing lost. I can still replace the whole strap.
