Zipdee fabric roller sleeve

I am putting a Zipdee awning on my Tradewind from salvaged parts.

What is the correct position of the fabric awning sleeve? In other words, should the sleeve be riveted to the roller so that the seam that makes the sleeve is at 12 o'clock when the awining is fully open?

Anybody got a picture?

That's what I figured. I assume when the sleeve is riveted on the plane of the awning fabric should be level with the top of the roller? Should the sleeve seam be at 12 o'clock or more like 10 o'clock position to reduce stress on the seam?

Does your awning fabric have the decorative fringe?

Yes, mine has the decorative fringe or valance.

I think I found my answer on the Zipdee website. It looks like the awning seam is at about the 1- 2 o'clock position

I rebuilt two last summer.

The one's I worked on were the small
one's front and back. They have a
"funny little TUCK" where the pull-loop
is connected. If that little tuck is not there,
then it will roll-up crooked.

May I suggest small alum washers under your rivets
for added surface strenth.

I was going to rivet the pull loop to the center of the inside of the roller. Can you post of photo of the ""funny little TUCK"".

I was considering using belly pan rivets with big heads to avoid ripping through the fabric.

I am at work now and can't get the photo till

The tuck is about 5/8" under the pull strap. It bonds
the large area of the fabric to the strap. The two folds
going away from the tuck distribute the force of the pull
from the strap.

I wish I had a photo for you...the small one's I
replaced were old and original.

There was sort of a funny little tuck on the original strap, kind of a folded over sewn end. I'm not sure if that is what you are referring to or not. I talked to Zipdee and they said just rivet the strap to the roller.

The PO had the ZipDee awnings on our 1979 re-sewn at some point (they used thin thread and the streetside was put back on the tube upside down??). We ended up removing the front, rear and streetside to fix some issues. We re-sewed the streetside seams, replaced the insert that fits into the aluminum slat and re-made the pulldown strap (was torn in 2). To re-attach the pulldown strap, we used 2 rivets with large washers as Kenneth suggested. Our straps riveted directly onto the roller tube, just on the trailer side of the flap but not into the flap. The original? mount on our curbside, the strap rivets are through the flap making it sit out in the center. One day I will remove and re-mount so it isn't on the flap.
