Zipdee Awning won't come out

Hi All,

My ZipDee awning on my used 1994 Airstream won't come out. I know it functions as the previous owner took lots of pictures and had it out all the time. It was a warm day so I thought I'd pull it out.

I undid both screw wheels on the side. Grabbed the awning bar and pulled. It raised up and didn't come out. I pulled so hard the fabric loop BROKE!

Any ideas or anything that should be lubricated maybe to make it come out?

Thanks in advance

Some rollers are locked with an lever at the end of the mechanism. There may also be a travel lock between the metal casing and the coach body but you should have seen that. May also help to take the rafter arms loose from the stowed position pin on the lower main awning arm.

Thanks! I removed the arms too to see if that helped and it still wouldn't budge

There has to be a lock, otherwise wind gets under the roller and unfurls it while you're driving.
On mine (not an AS) on the front of the roll is a flip lever I have to pull down with the rod. Then I can engage the pull loop and unfurl the awning.

I have seen aftermarket locks for folks that want extra security like Kansas during their high winds.

I had a 25' with the lock, which I'm familiar with. I've looked all over and cannot find one. Guess I'll look even harder.

Zepded Awning

When I got my used 1982 model I had a very hard time getting the awning to open. A lot of penetrating oil, WD40 time and effort and it finally comes open.

On mine the little short shaft on the forward end, where on mine there is a lock, was frozen in the bearing. no way to get to it without taking the end out of the awning. I ordered a new end from Zip Dee, installed it, and now the awning works fine.
I actually had to undo the screw that holds the shaft into the curved awning arm to unroll the awning to change the end piece. 2 man job to get it open that way.
