Zip Dee won’t Retract
Zip Dee Awning retracts 90 % then stops. Can only get it to fully retract about 2% of tries. Rolling motor, sensors, control board just replaced. Same problem.
Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

Do you turn off the power after the awning has extended out? That will cause the awning to lose track of its location and it won’t retract all the way. I only turn the power off while I’m driving. When you need to use the awning, turn on the power and then press the close button. This will help the awning know where the close position is. Leave the power on and open/close as needed.
Hope that helps!

So, when it is retracting, it sort of stops motorizing about 1 foot out (on my AS), so when it gets to that point it sort of relies on kinetic energy. I always make sure I am ready to keep it moving at that point in the retraction.

Fetch your Zip Dee emergency kit. At the front arm remove the plug and plug in the identical adapter from the kit. Touch the black contact to negative at the battery and red to positive. Watch the awning retract. I carry a ladder for this one use.

Check the connections/connectors at the control board, make sure they're plugged in properly, unplug the main connector and wait a few seconds, then plug it back in....see what that does for it.

Thanks for all of the tips!
Just got off the phone with Zip Dee. The said never to turn the power off when the awning is extended. Seems to work fine now.
Note: this is contrary to Zip Dee instructional videos that say to turn off when ever you are not operating awning.

I have had this problem from the start with my Zip Dee. I got great customer service from the Zip Dee people. Nonetheless, they conceded that this is a problem that does happen "from time to time." Of course, that means about 85 percent of the time for me.
To fix, when it stops part way, I start opening it again, let it open for about 2 seconds, then hit retract. Usually, one try like this will get it to fully retract. Occasionally, it takes 2 or even 3 tries to make it fully retract.

How I resolved that problem was replaced with manual awning a few months ago!
If someone needs parts I have a used awning with issues, asking 500$ or make offer. Pick up only.

Not a zip dee do da day
I bough a Flying Cloud purposely so I did not have to deal with the power unit and its temper tantrums.
Must be why Vinnies Airstream service does so many retrofits to manual awnings

And now everyone knows why I'd rather NOT have a power awning! (Although I'll probably have one anyway since it is on the trailer and I'm buying used.)

The motorized awing seems to be taking a bum rap. The power switch should NOT be turned off when the awing is extended. It will retrack completely if not turned off. Needs to be more clear instructions though.

Ive noticed on my 23 classic 33, that at times it will also retract to 90% then stop. I then hit open on the iphone app, then once it starts opening again i hit stop, then close, and it always fully closes.!

Not sure if it was previously mentioned but the issue with turning the power off is it messes up the programming of the controller. This happened on my 2014 International Sterling. The fix is to get it closed all the way, completely power down the controller, and wait ~10 minutes. The controller resets when powered up again. I had no problems after that.

One thing that bit me once was when I plugged my rig into shore power then I immediately retracted the awning. When you plug into shore, there is a delay before the DC cuts over to AC and during that time power is briefly cut to the awning, which messed up the awning set point. I had to manually wind it in using the emergency leads hooked up to my car battery then reset the board. I also heard it is good practice to hit the “close” button before opening it but I just picked that tip off some other post and cannot vouch that does anything.

Zip Dee awnings are designed to stop if resistance is detected. If you have’t done so, try spraying the lubrication holes on the main arms with lithium grease-don’t be stingy with it. Lubricate the extending arms with silicone spray. This solved my awning problems.

I have a 21 33ft Classic that wouldn’t retract. The arms would go down but as soon as it started to roll up it would stop. There is a torque sensor on the control board that stops it because it thinks it’s closed. Zip Dee support told me to tighten the spring 3 turns. That’s the biggest awning they make. He said the spring helps the motor roll it up. It almost closes all the way now. I think 2 more turns will solve it.

Zip Dee Awning
A dealer at The Sedalia Rally said to turn the awning on when you want to Open. Press Close to let it know it’s Closed and then Open. .When you want to Close Press Open to make sure it knows it’s position and then press Close. . Only turn the power off when you are not going to use it.
Close it when you’re not at the camper because it’s still susceptible to strong windS.

We had the same problem and we had to get our dealership to call airstream tec support. They were quick to tell us there is a reset button under the sink is a panel box. Once it was reset it worked fine. The awning is on a timer and once it gets off timing it won’t retract all the way in.
