Zip Dee Awning Repair

Hello fellow Streamers,

Has anybody had any experience replacing the recoil spring on a zip dee awning? I've got a 1986 32' Excella and the large awning on the NON patio side just drops when I pull it out. My guess is that the recoil spring is broken. Do I need to remove the entire assembly for the rail track on the side of the trailer?
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts....we're in Texas anticipating another hot summer

No, you do not need to remove the whole thing. When I did mine, I took the roller out the fabric and worked on it that way. If you take your time and identify the proper rivets I think you can get the spring out while leaving the roller still in the fabric, but if you have a storm or something while it is hanging loose that would not be good. You can buy the spring and roller assembly from Zip Dee and it comes with a diagram. If you do want to take it down you can take one of the end screws in the aluminum accordian out and slide the accordian apart allowing the whole awning to slide out without removing the rail. I had broken springs in 2 curb side awnings.

We had to replace the spring in ours. It was easy. You do need two people. The instructions are great. katie

When you call Zip Dee you need to know the length and the diameter of the tube to get the correct spring.
