Was this an Awning/Rock Guard?

There are a pair of bracket fittings on either side of the front window of our 1966 Safari, which seem to have been supports for an awning or rock guard. There is also a rail above the window, but I am having difficulty figuring out what the replacement would look like and where I would find one.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Zoom out a little. Are there two black catches for the rubber hold-downs for a Plexi sunscreen, or awning rail? Your top rail is slotted so that the top edge of an awning could slide in there IMO.

Those brackets are for the rock guard arms. The only rail we have is for the top of the window glass. Our rock guard is on a piano hinge. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the photos, everyone.

We do not have any latches under the front window to secure a solid type of awning/rock guard. Our 1980 had a pair of the black rubber latches to secure that rock guard, but there is nothing on this 1966. Bubba - do you have latches under your front window?

We were not sure if this was a sort of soft fabric awning and somewhere along the way the support arms have been lost? I'm not familiar with awnings that are neither solid (like the rock guards) nor on a roller (as our primary awning is). Does anyone have something like this?

I found several soft awnings at Vintage Trailer Supply, but they are all the wider ones for the curb side of the trailer. The rail at the top of our window looks the same as the rail mentioned on the VTS site, but I am not sure how the arms would attach?

We like to boondock in farm fields, but whoo hoo - it gets hot with the sun streaming in!

Robb, we do have “cricket” latches below the window that secures our rock guard. On the 55 my wife made a cover for the rock guard that looks like a miniature awning that shades the window when we’re stationary. It has elastic straps. I like a clear rock guard when on the highway that allows me to see the traffic behind through the trailer. Let me know what pictures or ideas you need and I’ll send the info.

Bubba - we really like the idea of using a clear rock guard so we can still see through the trailer when towing. We'll check into finding one and will install the latches to secure it.

Thanks, everyone!
