Do not grind your retaining rivets on your awning mounting plate with the awning still loaded and attatched thinking it will just sit there untill you are ready to pull it donw and tie off the ends. It will jump off the side of the rig and hit the ground. So much for trying to skip a step. Now to figure out how to reload the springs?? I thought if I tied the ends they would not move, nope too much tension.

Is this a Zip-Dee? If so, when you have everything back together, and mounted back on the trailer, disconnect the awning arm from the end cap, and turn the end cap clockwise one turn for every foot of awning length.Put the cap back into the awning (rafter) arm. You should be good, or at least good enough to see if the cap needs another turn or two of tension. Keep a firm grip on the cap, you really don't want to make a trip to the ER.

Well it started raining and I wanted to get to the vista windows quick it was dark and about 9pm so I figured I could tie off the round tube with the awning in it but I was not anticipating that much spring pressure so when I cut the last rivet and pulled up it just jumped off of the rig, broke my wire and there I was holding one end and balancing like a clown on the ladder he he. i held on to one end and it tore the lower mount from the forward leg away from the sheetmetal so I will reinforce it with one quarter inch or threee eights aluminumwhen I reinstall it. Man I wanna get this done but I know if I work on it everyday I will get the groove going and start flying through it. Oh well. No more shortcuts. Thanks everyone.
